Step 1
Find the right skates--this means they fit properly without causing sores. Usually you buy ones that are a size smaller than your shoes. There are many brands of hockey skates--Mission, Nike and Reebok are among the top ones.
-
Step 2
Look over the various hockey sticks that are in the stores. This is the second most important piece of equipment in hockey after skates.
-
Step 3
Check out shoulder pads and elbow pads to help protect your upper body from injury. Hockey pants and shin guards will protect the lower portion of your body--and don't forget a jock cup.
-
Step 4
Select a helmet that is comfortable and allows you the greatest range of vision. A mouth guard is a handy piece of equipment to protect your teeth.
-
Step 5
Pick out the gloves you will use--they can be leather or nylon--depending on your personal taste. Finally, you need to select a bag to put your equipment in.
