The side ponytail is making a fashion comeback for all girls, but little girls especially love the side ponytail. Side ponytails also look great on girls because it's a style you can see from the front and the back. To avoid putting all the hair in one big ponytail, try two together on one side of the head or one on each side of the head in pigtails.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hairbrush
  • Hair band (to match color of hair)
  • Bobby pins
  • Hair gel
  1. Step 1

Brush all of the hair on the head to one side. Some of the hair will need to come up and over the top of the head. For long or unmanageable hair, you may need to turn the head upside down or to the side to help move all of the hair.

  2. Step 2

Hold the hair just behind the ear on one side of the head. To place two side ponytails on one side of the head, orient the ponytails one on top of the other. Either place the lowest ponytail at the nape of the neck behind the ear and the other directly behind the ear or place the lowest directly behind the ear and the other above the ear.

  3. Step 3

Part the hair down the middle or slightly to one side if you're making two ponytails on opposite sides, or pigtails. Brush each half of the hair toward the spot behind the ear and secure the ponytails either at the nape of the neck or directly behind the ear.

  4. Step 4

Use hair bands that match the color of the hair. If you're using a band that doesn't match the hair, take a small section of hair and wrap it around the band to hide it. Pin the section of hair in place with a bobby pin at the end.

  5. Step 5

Leave the ponytails a little loose for girls, especially if you're doing both ponytails on the same side of the head. Having hair combed in a different direction than usual can start to get uncomfortable if it is pulled too tight.

  6. Step 6

Use gel to smooth out the hair and use bobby pins to secure any lumps or loose pieces of hair.
