A ponytail updo looks complicated, but it's actually a very simple style that's cool and comfortable for hot days, but sophisticated enough for a night on the town. It's even elegant enough for a special event like a wedding or a prom. It's so easy that you'll probably be able to do it yourself and the only requirement is that your hair is at least medium length.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Brush
  • Soft hair band
  • Hair gel or mousse
  • Medium-size hot rollers or curling iron
  • Bobbie pins
  1. Step 1

Start out with hair that's freshly washed and conditioned and brush the hair thoroughly, making sure it's completely smooth and tangle-free.

  2. Step 2

Smooth some hair gel or mousse through the hair to control frizz and keep it manageable and easy to handle.

  3. Step 3

Bring the hair back into a ponytail and secure it with a soft hair band.

  4. Step 4

Divide the ponytail into three sections. Use the curling iron or hot rollers to curl the sections under towards the nape of the neck.

  5. Step 5

Allow the hair to cool and then roll the curls under and towards the neck with your fingers. Secure them with bobbie pins.

  6. Step 6

Mist the curls lightly with hair spray to keep wisps under control.

Tips & Warnings
  • The ponytail updo is a lovely style that can be created low, at the base of the neck, or higher on the head.
  • For extra-special occasions, dress up the ponytail updo with some jeweled clips, beads or even small fresh flowers.
  • If you're daring, sprinkle some glitter on your ponytail updo or smooth on a little glittery hair gel.
