How to Make a Ponytail When Braiding

1. Brush your hair thoroughly to remove all the tangles and knots, and then spritz it using a warm, saltwater solution. Saltwater removes excess oil from your hair, which makes it easier to work with when hair braiding.

2. Use a hairdryer to blow the hair in the direction of the ponytail. For example, to fashion a ponytail in the back of the head, you should blow the hair away from the face.

3. Start at the top of the head and use a brush to sweep the hair into your opposite hand. Brush the hair on each side of your head back into your hand until you have a firm grasp on all of your hair.

4. Bend your head back slightly to create tension when brushing the hair on the underside of your head. Do this to prevent a loose ponytail or sagging hair.

5. Smooth your hair and ensure that it is in place. Position your ponytail between the crown and roundest part of your head, and secure the ponytail using a hair elastic. Be sure to use a covered hair elastic as opposed to a rubber band to prevent your hair from pulling or breaking.

6. Apply hairspray to the finished ponytail, smoothing down any stray hairs in the process.
