Gymnasts are constantly placing their wrists in high impact and awkward positions. Because of this, it is extremely important for these athletes to stretch their wrist to prevent any injuries. The following steps will tell you how to stretch your wrists like a gymnast.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place your hands together as if you were praying. Rotate your hands around each other and hold each position for 10 to 15 seconds. You will want to repeat this process at least 3 times each way.

  2. Step 2

Move your hands in a wave motion while keeping the same clasp with your hands. Repeat this motion for 10 to 15 seconds to make sure you receive an optimal wrist stretch. Make sure each wrist gets the same stretch time.

  3. Step 3

Get on the floor and onto your knees. Place your wrists on the ground so your fingers are pointing upward. This will provide a good stretch to your upward wrist area.

  4. Step 4

Turn your hands gradually until your fingers are pointing forward again. Hold each floor-wrist stretch for at least 10 seconds each.

  5. Step 5

Rotate your wrist in a circular motion from this position. If you were any popping or cracking, repeat the process just once more. If you do not, you have stretched your wrists effectively.

Tips & Warnings
  • This stretch can be very uncomfortable for someone who has never done it before but it is an effective way to stretch your wrists and will eventually become more comfortable.
  • Discontinue any wrist stretches if you hear or feel any popping or cracking until you see an orthopedic physician.
