Step 1
Find a spatula that will cover all your needs. Some spatulas are thin and are good for cooking hamburgers and other thin meats, but you need a thicker spatula when cooking thicker meats. The most important factor is to be sure you have a long handle so you can use your whole grill--you want to be able to turn those meats in the back without burning yourself.

Step 2
Look for tongs. Tongs are great for cooking hot dogs and sausages--you can also use them for grilling chicken on your barbecue. Make sure they have a long handle too because you will usually put hot dogs and sausages to the back of your grill.
-
Step 3
Select a grill brush to spread on the barbecue sauce or melted butter. Many meats as well as vegetables can use a grill brush--for example, ribs and corn on the cob.
-
Step 4
Find barbecue mitts to fit your hand comfortably while you barbecue your dinner. These protect your hands from the fire. A cleaning brush makes an excellent addition to your barbecue accessories.
-
Step 5
Buy a grill cover to protect your grill when it isn't in use. Protection from the elements is important so your grill lasts longer.
