Step 1
Develop the muscles used primarily in a golf swing. Strengthen and stretch muscles in the lower body, lower back and torso to increase flexibility. Your entire body is engaged in a golf swing and you will improve dramatically with the development of these muscles.
-
Step 2
Grip the golf club properly. A grip too tight or too weak will affect your swing, as will a grip that is rotated too far back or forward. Experiment by slowly swinging the club to see where the head connects with the ball and adjust your hands as needed.
-
Step 3
Keep your back straight. Posture is an important aspect of swing mechanics. Slouching or stooping will have a negative impact on the outcome of your golf swing.
-
Step 4
Follow through on your golf swing. Amateur golfers might feel this is not important, since the ball has already been hit, but proper follow through will help to improve swing speed and the distance the ball travels.
-
Step 5
Practice as much as possible. Hitting a golf ball is not a natural movement and must be developed. You can improve your swing mechanics by practicing and concentrating on each movement on a consistent basis.
