Golf can be an utterly frustrating game. The slightest alteration in the swing can make a big difference in your overall score. But, as the pros say, there is always one great shot that brings you back. Well here are some tips on how you can angle a golf club and hopefully hit a few more "great" shots to bring you back.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Position your golf club behind the ball. Let it fall naturally without trying to manipulate the club face.
Step2
Check to see how the club face is lying against the ball. If it's square, which is what you want, the club face will be flush with the ball. If it is too open, there will be a large gap between your club head and the ball. If it is "closed," your back wrist will look like it is over your front wrist. Also the club face will look like it is concealing the ball. You won't see part of the ball.
Step3
Start your swing so you can check the angle of your golf club. Bring your club back half way so that it extends behind you. If the club face is at a 45-degree angle to the ground, it is square. If it is open, the angle will be about 90 degrees and if it is closed, it will be parallel to the ground.
Step4
Bring your swing to the top of your stroke and freeze it. This is a third point where you can check the angle of your golf club to make sure it is square. First behind the ball, then halfway, now here. You are looking to see if the club face is lying "flat" toward the ground." If it seems under or overpronated, then adjust accordingly.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your club face feels heavy, then it is closed. This is because the weight of the club head is not adjusted proportionally.
