Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two decks of playing cards
  • Envelope
  1. Step 1

Decide which card you want to predict before beginning the trick. This will need to be done out of the view of your audience. For this article, assume you are going to use the 3 of Diamonds. Make sure that the 3 of Diamonds is on the top of one of your card decks. Now you are ready to perform the trick for your audience.

  2. Step 2

Place the deck with the 3 of Diamonds on the top to the side. Shuffle the other deck, and then hold the cards up where only you can see them. Find the 3 of Diamonds and place the card in the envelope. Don't let your audience see what the card is.

  3. Step 3

Tell your audience that you have just predicted which card they will choose from the other deck of cards. Shuffle the other deck, but make sure that the top card stays on the top. You may wish to practice this a few times beforehand. Now it appears that you have shuffled the cards, but you still actually know where the 3 of Diamonds is.

  4. Step 4

Instruct someone to cut the cards. All they need to do is take the top half of the deck and place it next to the bottom half.

  5. Step 5

Put the envelope on the top of the top half of the cut deck, and then place the bottom half of the cut deck on the envelope. While you are doing this, distract them by making eye contact.

  6. Step 6

Recap what you have done so far, making sure that you mention you had them cut the deck to any card they wished. Lift up the envelope, and show them the card under it, which is of course the 3 of Diamonds. Open the envelope to show the other 3 of Diamonds inside of it.
