Feng Shui is a design technique that uses the five elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water to bring positive energy into a designed space. Because its purpose is to create a balanced environment, using feng shui to decorate your living room will bring harmony to your home. Although feng shui interior designers are available, you can bring positive energy into your home by learning a few decorating principles.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Declutter your living space with furniture that isn't used. If there's a chair in the corner or a table that has never felt like it's in the right space, move it out of the room. This will optimize your space available so you can determine a proper, new placement.

  2. Step 2

Clean out any furniture with sharp or square corners. This is believed to bring negative energy, or chi, into a room. Use round or oval tables to create a positive energy.

  3. Step 3

Arrange furniture so you can always see the doorways. Also leave enough space between furniture placement so the chi flows freely.

  4. Step 4

Light all dark corners or areas in each room. You can use either lights, plants or mirrors to bring light to a corner. This will attract positive energy to the area and help the flow of chi.

  5. Step 5

Make your fireplace the focal point. Set the furniture around the fireplace creating a warm and inviting place to have a conversation. Do not set your furniture around any metal objects, such as a television.

  6. Step 6

Keep the center table clean and tidy. A centrally placed coffee table symbolizes health and should invite people to sit around it.
