The whip start is a faster and more advanced way to begin tricks with a diabolo juggling set. It's a fairly difficult move, and it's best to master the standard starting position and a few simple tricks before you attempt the whip start technique. Once you do, you're well on your way to some truly impressive diabolo moves.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Roll the diabolo on the ground by moving the sticks slowly from side to side, gradually building speed.

  2. Step 2

Maintain the speed and toss the diabolo up with your right hand, holding your left hand steady.

  3. Step 3

Continue to hold the left stick as steady as you can while you move the right stick quickly and smoothly upwards.

  4. Step 4

Move both hands up and down gradually faster, increasing the height of your arm motions as the diabolo gains speed.

  5. Step 5

Whip the diabolo from side to side, while you cross and uncross your hands. The diabolo will begin to spin even faster.

  6. Step 6

Practice until you've mastered the whip start, and then beginning moving from the whip start into your trick.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the diabolo begins to wobble, just return to the basic stance, holding your left hand steady while pulling with the right hand. The movement of the diabolo will eventually stabilize and you can proceed with the trick.
  • The diabolo is more stable at higher speeds. If the diabolo seems to be veering more to one side, try increasing the speed of the spin.
