Instructions

    • 1

Wash or dampen the man's hair. Cover him with a smock. Comb the hair out, removing any snarls. Find the natural part if there is one.

    • 2

Hold the scissors in your dominant hand. Place the comb in the same hand.

    • 3

Gather a small section of hair, running from the front of the head to the back. Comb it straight up. Hold it in the spot where you want to cut it. Use the index and middle fingers of your non-dominant hand.

    • 4

Use your fingers as a guide. Cut the hair along your fingers. If his hair is curly, cut it on an angle with the shorter hair toward the back of the head and longer hair toward the forehead.

    • 5

Move across the top of the head, sectioning it off. Cut as you go, taking off the same amount of hair each time.

    • 6

Comb the man's hair onto his forehead if he wears bangs. Cut the hair straight across. This also works if he likes to push the front of his hair straight up with product.

    • 7

Twist small sections of hair between your fingers. Hold each section straight up and cut the ends bluntly. This is an easy way to cut hair that's worn messy with hair gel.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you're unsure how much to cut off, start by trimming off a little bit of hair. You can always trim more, but you can't glue it back on if you take off too much.
