When you first begin to cut hair, you probably began with simple blunt cuts. Many cuts require a little more expertise. If you cut layers in men's hair, you'll need a little more technique than just a blunt cut. You can learn to layer men's hair if you follow the steps below.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut at the crown first. Begin by cutting the first section right across the crown from side to side of the head. You need a point to start with when you layer men's hair.

  2. Step 2

Put the hair between the index finger and the middle finger and cut the amount off at the top of the finger. Mix this hair with the side next to it and do the same. Use the first cut to measure the amount that you cut off. Complete the other side in the same manner.

  3. Step 3

Divide a section off that goes from front to back on the head. Make certain that some of the hair that you cut in the first section is in the this section so you can compare measurements.

  4. Step 4

Angle the fingers that are holding the hair, the first and middle, lower in the back and higher toward the front. The cut should be angled to have the hair longer in front when you layer men's hair.

  5. Step 5

Trim along the top of the fingers keeping it in line with the first hair that you cut.

  6. Step 6

Continue to cut the hair in sections in the front, always using some of the previously cut hair to measure where to cut it. When you've finished cutting all the hair, it should be perfectly layered in the front.
