Whether you are recovering from an injury, have a head cold, or simply need to relax, a cranial massage can be quite enjoyable. Here are some tips on how to enhance that massage by incorporating ear pulls into your cranial massage.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pinch your thumb and index finger together. In this massage technique, none of your other fingers touches the body.

  2. Step 2

Place your pinched hands on each ear lobe of the recipient. Apply just a slight amount of pressure. Think of the amount of pressure it would take to hold a coin between those two fingers.

  3. Step 3

Pull the ear lobe away from the body toward the recipient's shoulders. You may also lift slightly. Stop when you feel a small amount of tension from the position you are holding.

  4. Step 4

Hold the cranial ear pulls for several minutes. Check in with the recipient to make sure this technique is comfortable and effective for them. The longer the hold, the greater the release of tension in the cranial area.

Tips & Warnings
  • This massage technique can be helpful in loosening ear wax.
  • It can help relieve the pain of migraine headaches in some patients.
  • Add soothing music and dim light to the experience. This will help calm the recipient and allow them to relax into the ear pulls of the cranial sacral massage.
  • When treating a condition, always receive a massage from a licensed massage therapist. They are trained in the anatomy of the human body.
