Cranial sacral therapy is a form of massage that focuses on the bones of the skull, the spine and sacrum to balance the body's energy by aiding the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid. A gentle and non-invasive form of massage, cranial sacral therapy uses soft touch, creating a relaxing and energetically beneficial massage. With a few tips, you can add the fingers in the ear technique to your massage repertoire.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin the cranial sacral fingers in the ear technique with your client face up on the massage table. Sit in a chair above the client's head and position yourself so that you can gently rest your forearms comfortably on the table on either side of the clients head.

  2. Step 2

Place the heals of your hands just above the clients ears so that your fingers curve and rest naturally just below the ear. Place your middle fingers just over the ear canal. Do not stick your fingers in the ears, rather just rest the tips of your fingers over the ear opening.

  3. Step 3

Rest your pointer finger just above the ear and your pinky finger just below the ear. Begin to rock your hands gently, moving at the wrist. With your middle finger held in place, your pointer finger presses gently and moves forward while your pinky finger presses gently and moves back. The movement is very subtle and small, barely visible by sight.

  4. Step 4

Alternate the rocking movement back and forth. Continue holding the ears and gently rocking for up to 10 minutes, depending on the client's comfort level. Use the cranial sacral fingers in the ear technique to help relieve headaches and migraines, earaches, sinus pressure and even Parkinson's.
