Step 1
Take the outside temperature into consideration. Your snake is cold blooded and needs a temperature controlled environment. It should be about 70 to 85 degrees outside. If it's not, your snake won't enjoy the experience and may become stressed.
-
Step 2
Avoid letting your snake crawl around on the ground if the environment isn't controlled. Your snake may encounter pesticides, fungus or bacteria that can make them sick. They also may meet another animal that can hut them.
-
Step 3
Plan on only taking your snake outside for short periods of time. Just 15 to 30 minutes is plenty of time for your snake to enjoy their outdoor experience.
-
Step 4
Consider taking your corn snake outdoors and handling them the entire time. Let them enjoy the fresh air and the scents while they twine around your hands or shoulders. This is a good idea if you can't control the outside environment.
-
Step 5
Watch smaller or baby corn snakes carefully if you allow them to crawl in grass. They may become lost.
-
Step 6
Wait until your snake is calm and bonded with you before taking him outside. If your snake is already stressed, taking him outdoors may make him more stressed.

on 10/13/2008 I have regularly taken my Corn Snake outside into the garden and can say without doubt, that he enjoys it - you could tell if he wasn't e.g. he'd be wary and either be moving quick to find somewhere to hide or be stationary and stiff. I think it's good for him to have different scents to smell and surfaces to glide across; also it must be nice to have the sun on his back and to sniff the breeze. However, you must always keep an eye on them and never leave them unsupervised - they can and will climb and can squeeze into places that you never thought possible!!
