2. Think about the long-term commitment. Corn snakes require daily care, regular feedings and frequent habitat cleaning.

4. Pick the color of corn snake you want. Because of captive breeding, there are many different color phases of corn snakes available.
5. Find out if the corn snake is healthy. A healthy corn snake should have clear eyes, a round body, healthy skin and should be active and alert.
6. Ask when the corn snake last ate. If it has been more than a week, ask the associate to feed the snake while you are there. This will let you know if the snake has a healthy appetite.
7. Bring the corn snake straight home after you buy it. Corn snakes are cold blooded so they must be kept at a constant temperature to prevent respiratory problems.
