Step 1
Stand the offensive lineman up with their feet slightly wider than their shoulder width apart.
-
Step 2
Point the toes of the linemen forward and straight. The position of the feet is very important in that they provide the balance for the offensive linemen's base in football.
-
Step 3
Make sure to extend the chest and pull back the shoulders of the offensive linemen. This helps ensure that once in the stance the offensive linemen will not throw off his balance by leaning forward too much.
-
Step 4
Bend down first with the knees. Then when the lineman is about at a half-knee bend, have the lineman bend at the waist. Remember to keep the feet pointed forward, the chest out and the shoulders back.
-
Step 5
Reach out with the dominant hand and place it on the ground in front of the offensive lineman. The lineman can use either the right or left hand depending on if they are right-handed or left-handed.
-
Step 6
Adjust the base of the offensive lineman as necessary. The linemen should be relatively comfortable in their base stance because they often have to hold that position for up to 25 seconds without moving.
