Flan, a popular custard dessert in Spain and in Mexico, is made with eggs, milk, vanilla and a caramel coating. Basic flan recipes vary as do the variety of specialized flans including lemon, cream cheese and even vegetables. Condensed milk or cream is a constant in flan recipes. It gives the dessert a creamy texture.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cheesecake flan recipe
  • Eggs
  • Mixing bowl or blender
  • Whisk
  • Evaporated milk
  • Sweetened condensed milk
  • Plastic spatula
  • Whole milk
  • Measuring cup
  1. Step 1

Crack the eggs and place them in a large mixing bowl or blender. Separate egg yolks if the recipe calls for separated yolks. Place the yolks in the blender or large mixing bowl. Beat eggs with a metal whisk if using a mixing bowl.

  2. Step 2

Add evaporated milk to your mixing bowl or blender according to your cheesecake recipe. Evaporated milk is a canned milk product with 60 percent of the water removed. Whisk the milk into your eggs. Wait to mix all ingredients if using a blender.

  3. Step 3

Open a can of sweetened condensed milk. Add it to the evaporated milk and eggs. Scrape the can with a plastic spatula to remove all of the milk from the can. Whisk sweetened condensed milk into the other cheesecake flan ingredients.

  4. Step 4

Choose whole milk if your flan recipe calls for milk instead of water. Measure the correct amount of whole milk in a measuring cup. Add milk to the bowl or blender and mix all ingredients until well blended.

Tips & Warnings
