Step 1
Choose a harness that is the correct size and weight for your pet. Some designs allow the cat to slip out easily if your cat is hyper or eager, so find one that works for you and your pet. The most popular styles are the "H shaped" and the "Figure 8."
-
Step 2
Hold the cat still, petting his head and neck to calm him. Once the cat feels mostly calm you can begin the harness process.
-
Step 3
Place the opening gently over the cat's head for a "Figure 8" harness. For an "H shaped" harness, wrap the belt strap around the neck and fasten.
-
Step 4
Get the cat's front legs through the opening of the "Figure 8" harness. Start with the left leg and wrap the rest of the restraint around the body.
-
Step 5
Fasten the clasp at the cat's side or belly on either type of harness and make sure there are no kinks or twists.
-
Step 6
Check that the cat is comfortable, but understand that the first few times you harness your cat it may not be fun for her. Keep giving the cat short turns with the harness until she is completely comfortable.
