Pumpkin carving is Halloween tradition you don't want to miss. You can cut out a silly, scary or serious face and turn your pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern with a pen and your imagination. Follow these tips to draw faces on a pumpkin.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Create a face on a piece of paper before you start. You can set up the eyes, nose and mouth in different ways and pick your favorite.

  2. Step 2

Take off the pumpkin lid and scrape out the pumpkin before you begin. Now you will get a better grasp of the pumpkin when you are drawing and you won't accidentally erase the face you draw.

  3. Step 3

Cut out a tiny piece of pumpkin from the upper rim. This becomes a marker so you can see the center point of the pumpkin. You will draw the face opposite of this point.

  4. Step 4

Use a regular pen or washable markers to draw the pumpkin's facial features. Try to pick a flat area to draw lightly so you don't leave an imprint.

  5. Step 5

Draw the mouth first so it can be positioned properly on the pumpkin. If you draw the mouth last, you might not leave enough room and it will appear too low on the pumpkin face.

  6. Step 6

Place the eyes above the mouth leaving room for the nose. Use the natural lines on the pumpkin to draw the facial features evenly.

  7. Step 7

Buy a special face pattern made for pumpkin carving if you don't like to draw freehand. Use a stencil of a face and trace it on to the pumpkin.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sketch the pumpkin face on paper before you draw it on the pumpkin.
  • Wipe the pattern off and try again if you don't like the first face you draw.
