Step 1
Locate the floppy drive ribbon. The ribbon has a twist in the inner cables at one end. A new floppy drive comes with its own ribbon. Or, use the existing ribbon if you are replacing an existing drive.

Step 2
Insert the flat, non-twist end of the ribbon into the motherboard connector. Ensure that pin 1 is lined up with the "PIN 1" label on the motherboard. Press firmly to make the connection.

Step 3
Line up the notch in the floppy drive connector with the raised bump on the twist end of the ribbon and press firmly to lock it in place.
