Flourishes let the magician show his skill and establish himself as an expert. The boomerang toss is an exciting flourish that astonishes audiences and lets the magician lead them into the next trick. The boomerang toss should be done several times in a row to mix the cards.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Hold the boomerang card at the top corner with thumb and index finger. The middle finger should be used as a pivot release to guide the card's flight from the hand.

  2. Step 2

Toss the card into the air about 2 inches from the fingertips over and over again. This allows the magician to get a feel for the spinning action of the card.

  3. Step 3

Hold the deck of cards in the other hand with the pinky on the bottom and first finger on top. Place the middle finger and ring finger on the bottom. The thumb should be on top of the deck of cards.

  4. Step 4

Pull up the bottom packet of cards, which is approximately half of the cards in the deck. The packet should be moved into a position with the bottom packet now protruding about half an inch above the other cards. This is a sort of suspended card cut.

  5. Step 5

Hold the second packet's position with the index finger. This becomes the "mitt" for the boomerang card to land into and be cut back into the deck.

  6. Step 6

Toss the card over into the pack and catch it with the "mitt." Open the deck of cards just like a baseball mitt and the boomerang card should slide right into the deck.
