If you want to expand your BMX tricks, you've got to get your bunnyhop perfected first. It's the fundamental setup for several jumps, like an ice pick or 360, so it's important to master for street riding. You're basically catching air by lifting your bike up off the ground, starting with the front wheel. Sounds simple enough, but if blow your bunnyhop, the subsequent trick will be incorrect also.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get up plenty of speed before you start your bunnyhop. If you're speed is incorrect, you won't be able to catch much air when you jump.

  2. Step 2

Make sure you lift your front wheel first and get your bike fairly vertical before lifting your rear wheel. If you try to lift both wheels at the same time, you won't get much distance or height.

  3. Step 3

Keep your pedals level throughout the jump. You don't want to be pedaling and bending your knees. You need your legs straight in order to use them for pulling up the rear of the bike.

  4. Step 4

Use your back and legs to lift the bike and not your arms. You don't need a lot of upper arm strength for this jump if you do it correctly.

  5. Step 5

Avoid falling forward with the front end after your jump. Extend your arms and set the front end down gently.

Tips & Warnings
  • When trying any BMX tricks, it's wise to wear some basic safety gear. A fitted helmet is a must and gloves will protect your hands if you go down on the pavement.
