Straightening black hair with a marcel iron is faster than ceramic irons. The heavier weight of the iron and oven used for heating, produces favorable results on most African American hair. Couple the marcel iron with the right hair products and style hair with ease, by following these tips.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Marcel iron
  • Marcel iron stove
  • Comb
  • Hair clips
  • Anti-frizz oil based styling product
  1. Step 1

Place the marcel iron into the stove and warm up for 1 minute before use.

  2. Step 2

Part the hair. Use a comb to divide a small section of the hair. Use hair clips to keep the rest of your hair out of the way.

  3. Step 3

Apply a small amount of anti-frizz oil based styling product through the hair section.

  4. Step 4

Remove the iron from the stove and test its heat on a towel before applying to the hair.

  5. Step 5

Grip the section of hair between the barrels of the irons. Starting at the top smooth the iron down the hair shaft several times until the desired level of straightening is achieved. Work rapidly to keep the hair from sizzling and starting to burn.

  6. Step 6

Replace the iron in the stove for 30 seconds.

  7. Step 7

Repeat Steps 2 through 6 to straighten the entire head of hair.
