Of all the Egyptian belly dancing moves, the step touch is one of the most popular. There are several variations of this particular move, but they're all basically the same general movements. You can use a step touch to move from one place to another on the floor, or just combine it with other belly dancing moves.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Assume the right posture. Make sure that your body is in the right position, with your feet together, your tummy tight and your shoulders lifted and back.

  2. Step 2

Practice the step touch. The actual step touch is one of the easiest moves in Egyptian belly dancing. You simply put your right foot forward and tap your toes onto the ground. Then place your foot back down by your side and do the same with the left foot.

  3. Step 3

Throw in a hip lift. Once you have the stepping motion down, you can add interest with other movements. As your right foot goes forward to tap the ground, lift your right hip up by isolating your abdomen muscles. Drop the hip as you place the foot back down by your side. Repeat with the other foot and hip.

  4. Step 4

Go another direction. You can do a belly dancing step touch in any direction that you desire. You can tap in the front, to the side or even to the back.

  5. Step 5

Combine it with some arm movements. As you tap to the front, move your arms in alternation. If your left foot is tapping, keep your left hand low while your right arm is up high and vice versa.
