Learning jazz is a great way to get in shape and have fun at the same time. Not only will jazz moves help you get lean and toned, you'll build confidence and look great the next time you're on the dance floor.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand with your feet together and begin to walk forward with a sweeping motion.

  2. Step 2

Trace an arch with each step. The foot that's moving forward should lightly sweep the floor right next to the foot that is holding your weight.

  3. Step 3

Swing your hips out to the side in a fluid motion as you practice beginning jazz dancing, rather than a jutting motion. Hold your hands out in front of you and snap your fingers with each step.

  4. Step 4

Step to one side. Place the other foot in front of you and put your weight on the heel of that foot.

  5. Step 5

Twist the toe outward while stepping to the side with the other foot. You can either snap your fingers with each move or hold them cupped as you would if you were holding a cane.

  6. Step 6

Travel to the side by repeating this movement.

  7. Step 7

Practice these moves going from side to side and front to back.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice your beginning jazz moves by dancing in front a mirror to perfect your techniques. Work with a partner to synchronize your movements.
