How to Use Stencil Bricks and Add Star Flair in Airbrushing

Airbrushing has become an accepted artform that is more widely recognized in the last decade than it ever was before. First emerging to complete graffiti on the streets of many cities, airbrushing is a complicated art requiring skills such as knowing the pressure of the airgun and how to use color, stencils, star flair and other techniques.

Instructions

1. Decide on the color of bricks you want on the design. If you have already laid down a foundation for the design of the piece, you want to hold the brick stencil in the area the bricks will go. Spray over the stencil in the places you want the bricks. Do this lightly, so they do not overwhelm what you have already brushed.

2. Using the desired color you want for the stars, hold the airbrush in the location you want the star. Start with a strong spray for the center of the star, then spray lightly up and back to the center. Repeat this process to the right and back, left and back, and down and back. This forms the rays on the star.

3. Add flair to the star by spraying a circle around the enitre star and lightly shading the inside of the circle. Add a sharp burst of color to an area outside of the circle in a couple of places, to signify star dust or other twinkles.

4. Practice this move a few times and in different colors to get a real feel for the motion of the airbrush when working with stencils or creating stars. Once you have mastered this technique, you can add stars quickly and with great flair.
