Step 1
Stand facing your opponent. You both will stand in martial arts stances, with your legs about a shoulder's width apart, with your right foot forward, and your weight low and centered.
-
Step 2
Prepare as your opponent steps forward with a Shomen strike. He raises his right arm with his elbow bent at the elbow, and his fingers and thumb together, so they resemble the edge of a blade. He bends his left hand at the elbow and places it across his chest, with the left hand in the same position as the right.
-
Step 3
Step forward to meet your opponent as she strikes. Place your right hand on her outstretched wrist and pivot on your right foot so that you are standing behind your opponent, your left hand resting on her left shoulder. This is the Nage of the Shomen Uchi Irimi Nage in Aikido martial arts.
-
Step 4
Force your opponent to lean forward by pulling a little on the right wrist and pushing on the right shoulder. This will throw off your opponent's center of balance.
-
Step 5
Draw your opponent into a circle by stepping back with your right foot and controlling your opponent by still grasping the wrist and keeping his body close with your hand on his right shoulder. He will now have his torso bent with his right side against your chest, and the weight of your arm keeping him low. He'll have to step forward with his left foot in an attempt to keep his balance.
-
Step 6
Throw your opponent by bringing your right arm up, keeping it straight, in a circle from the right to the left. By doing this, you will force your opponent backward and down to the mat. Your left hand will help direct this fall.
-
Step 7
Remember to continue the motion of the circle with both arms and hands. Visualize throwing your chi or energy onto your opponent as she's lying on the mat.
-
Step 8
Practice the Shomen Uchi Irimi Nage in Aikido martial arts, both as attacker and as the opponent. In this way you will learn not only how to be thrown, but also how to throw.
-
Step 9
Do the Shomen Uchi Irimi Nage in Aikido martial arts slowly at first, concentrating on all aspects and positions of the move. When you feel more comfortable with this move, you can increase the speed at which you do the technique, and apply it to matches and competitions.
