When you create your own jewelry, you guarantee that it's one of a kind. Wire wrapped jewelry dates back to ancient times. Wire wrapping links beads together with no solder. When you wire wrap jewelry, it involves a few extra tools and usually 22-gauge wire of gold, silver, brass or copper. The easiest method requires beads or stones that have precut holes.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wire
  • Stones with predrilled holes or beads
  • Chain nose pliers
  • Wire cutter
  • Flat nosed pliers
  1. Step 1

Grasp the wire in the tip of the chain nose pliers. Create a loop by pulling the wire over 1 side of the tip of the pliers and twisting it around the base. Wire wrapped jewelry requires you make these loops to link together.

  2. Step 2

Push the bead onto the wire. Hold the wire in 1 hand with the bead pushed up to the loop you just created. Keep the bead in place while you continue to wrap the wire around the base of the loop several times as you hold the loop in the pliers.

  3. Step 3

Wrap several times and remove the pliers from the loop. Clip off any excess wire that you haven't wrapped with the wire cutters.

  4. Step 4

Crimp the wound area flat. Push the bead close to the wrapped area to create a snug fit and twist the wire coming out of the other end of the bead over the nose of the chain nosed pliers.

  5. Step 5

Twist the wire around the base several times to create the loop at the other end. Trim away excess wire and crimp the tail down to create a finished look, as you did on the other side of the bead or stone.

  6. Step 6

Begin a second loop. Do not wrap it once it is made, but push the end of the wire through the loop you just created on the first bead. Once it's through the loop, creating a second bead to the chain, wrap it shut and crimp.

  7. Step 7

Position a second bead onto the wire that extends from the loop. Push it tight and create another loop over the plier's nose. Wrap the base with wire, trim and flatten down. Continue to wire wrap jewelry links to complete your project.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you make wire wrapped earrings, check for uniformity of the stones, so that both earrings look the same.
