Almost everyone loves chocolate cake. Unfortunately, traditional chocolate cake can be high in sugar, cholesterol and animal fats that aren't good for your body. This tasty vegan chocolate cake has all of the flavor of a regular cake, but is much healthier to eat.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/2 cups unbleached white organic flour
  • 1 cup organic sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder or carob
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup organic orange juice
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  1. Step 1

Prep the oven and pan. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees, and then add a little flour to a 9-inch round pan. Set it aside.

  2. Step 2

Gather all your ingredients. You want to choose organic ingredients whenever possible. Most of these items are readily available at your local health food store. You can experiment with different substitutions based on your own personal preferences and dietary needs.

  3. Step 3

Mix the dry items together. Combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, salt and baking soda together in a bowl and stir them until combined.

  4. Step 4

Combine the vegetable oil, water, orange juice and vanilla extract in a separate bowl. Slowly stir the wet items into the dry until they form a thin cake batter.

  5. Step 5

Add in the vinegar and stir quickly to evenly distribute the mixture. You want to make sure to not let the cake batter sit for very long before baking; the vinegar will begin to break down the cake mixture and can cause it to become flat or to separate during cooking.

  6. Step 6

Pour the batter into the lightly floured pan.

  7. Step 7

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes at 375 degrees.
