You can create a beautiful cell phone case from fabric that you may already have on hand. Before you begin sewing the cell phone case, you must know how to cut out the pattern for it. Though it takes concentration, you can cut out the pieces even without a commercial pattern.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut a piece of fabric from the yardage. Take a piece of fabric from along the edge of the yardage to create a pattern for a cell phone case. When you sew the cell phone case, you need the fabric to be wide enough to accommodate for 1/2-inch seams on both sides.

  2. Step 2

Fold the fabric in half and then fold it in half a second time. You need to have 2 pieces to create the cell phone case. By folding this several times, you can cut the handle from the same folded material.

  3. Step 3

Mark 2 strips of fabric that are 3 1/2 inches across and 11 inches up and down from the folded fabric for a standard cell phone. The exact measurements vary with the size of the cell phone. Measure the cell phone and add the total width plus 1 inch for seam allowance, adding a little extra room for the phone to glide in easily.

  4. Step 4

Lay the fabric down and find the 11-inch mark, or the longer of the 2 marks if your cell phone is larger or smaller. Cut across the fabric and separate off 1 folded piece. Cut the 3 1/2-inch width all the way down the fabric.

  5. Step 5

Use the leftover fabric to cut a handle. Measure an 11-inch strip for the handle. You can cut any length for the handle when you're sewing a cell phone case; you just need to adjust the pattern shorter or longer. If you want it to hang on the hip, cut the single piece 2 inches wide and 10 inches long. The 2-inch wide width allows for seams and decorative top stitching.
