Fettuccine alfredo is a rich and decadent pasta dish. The main steps in making this dish include cooking the fettuccine pasta and making the alfredo sauce. While it may seem difficult to do, knowing the right steps can make cooking fettuccine alfredo much easier.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Stovetop
  • Sauce pan
  • 1 1/2 oz. butter
  • 1 qt. heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Step1
Put a saucepan on a burner on the stovetop. Turn the burner onto medium heat.
Step2
Melt 1 1/2 oz. of butter in the saucepan. Be careful not to let the butter brown while it melts.
Step3
Add 1 qt. of heavy cream to the melted butter in the saucepan.
Step4
Place 1/2 tsp. of pepper and 1/2 tsp. of salt into the saucepan with the other ingredients.
Step5
Stir the ingredients in the saucepan with a whisk. You will want to make sure that you stir the contents of the saucepan occasionally while cooking.
Step6
Allow the sauce to cook over medium heat. The sauce will bubble up a bit during cooking.
Step7
Take note of the alfredo sauce's texture at this point. It has a very runny, almost watery, texture and does not coat or stick to the whisk.
Step8
Combine the cooked fettuccine pasta and alfredo sauce and serve with a garden salad and hot garlic bread.

Tips & Warnings

  • While cooking the alfredo sauce, you can also cook the fettuccine pasta. Be sure to use enough water in order for the pasta to cook properly. Use 1 qt. of water for every 4 oz. of dry pasta you intend to cook.
