Things You'll Need:
- Stovetop
- Pasta pot or stockpot
- Water
- Salt
- Oil
- Fettuccine pasta
- Timer (optional)
- Colander
-
Step 1
Pour water into a large pasta pot or stockpot. Use one quart of water for every four ounces of dry pasta you intend to cook. Be careful not to use too little water or the pasta will not cook properly. Place the pasta pot on a burner on the stove.
-
Step 2
Add about 3 pinches of salt to the water in the pasta pot. The salt will help bring out the pasta's natural flavors and give the pasta more texture.
-
Step 3
Place approximately one ounce of oil, such as olive oil, in the pasta pot. This small amount of oil prevents the pasta from sticking to itself, as well as to the pasta pot.
-
Step 4
Turn the stove burner onto high heat and bring the water in the pasta pot to a rolling boil.
-
Step 5
Add the dry fettuccine pasta to the boiling water in the pasta pot. Plan to use four ounces of dry fettuccine pasta per person.
-
Step 6
Cook the fettuccine pasta for approximately 10 to 12 minutes. Cooking time may vary depending on how tender you like your pasta.
-
Step 7
Drain the cooked pasta in a colander over a sink. Shake the colander slightly to remove any excess water.
