If you have an orchid plant, then you know how beautiful these flowers are when they bloom. An orchid contains three inner and outer petals, which gives it a very exotic appearance. When caring for your indoor orchid, you need to properly water it to ensure good growth.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Sit the bark of the orchid in a container of water the night before you plant it. This moistens the bark so that is ready to be planted.

  2. Step 2

Leave the orchid alone for the first week after transplanting it. If the bark is moistened, it will keep the plant nutritionally sound until the next watering and give it a chance to grow accustomed to the new environment.

  3. Step 3

Examine the orchid to determine whether it needs water. For the most part, you want to keep the orchid in conditions that are moist, but not soggy. Usually only a small amount of water is required to meet these conditions.

  4. Step 4

Determine your watering schedule based on the season. In the summer, you'll water the orchid more frequently than in the winter months.

  5. Step 5

Expect to give the orchid water on a weekly basis. As a rule of thumb, you should plan to water the plant every week to 12 days.

Tips & Warnings
  • You need to do some research to determine the exact time frame that you should water your orchid plant. Certain varieties need watering more often than others.
  • Don't water the orchid too frequently. You'll kill it because it doesn't like soggy conditions.
