How to Flip Somebody Bigger Than You

When you are sparring during a martial arts match, you may feel intimidated if faced with an opponent who is larger than you. However, the larger person does not necessarily have an advantage over you. With some skill and practice, you can flip a person bigger than you.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice this move on a mat in a controlled environment. You want to keep both you and your sparring partner free of injury.

    • 2

Move close to your opponent. You need to be in a position where you are able to reach out and grab him. You can pull him to you by grabbing onto the collar of his uniform.

    • 3

Take your arms and place them around his body. Slide under his arms as though you are almost hugging him.

    • 4

Step to the back of his body while you are still holding him with your arms. Crouch down and lift him onto your back.

    • 5

Use your arms to leverage him onto the back of your body. You want to keep your legs shoulder width apart to offer you the support you need for his larger size.

    • 6

Flip him over your body and onto the ground.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't show the opponent that you are intimidated by his size. Keep your game face on and you can stun him with your attack.

  • Watch out for back strain when flipping someone larger than you. Use the strength in your arms and legs to complete the move.
