How to Cook Fried Rice

Fried rice is a great dish to make with leftovers. You can use just about any kind of meat or vegetable in this recipe. The key to the true takeout flavor is to cook the rice the day before you use it for the fried rice. Allow yourself about 30 minutes to put this dish together for a yummy side or main dish with an authentic restaurant taste.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 tbsp. oil
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 3/4 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups pork, shrimp or chicken, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 cups rice, cooked
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  1. Step 1

    Heat oil in a skillet or wok, and add the bell pepper and green onion. Cook the vegetables until they're tender.

  2. Step 2

    Add the meat to the skillet and cook it for one minute, stirring constantly. Put in the salt and pepper.

  3. Step 3

    Combine the rice with the meat and vegetable mixture. Stir constantly to heat the rice throughout.

  4. Step 4

    Make a pit in the middle of the rice mixture. Place the beaten eggs in the pit and allow them to cook until they're firm.

  5. Step 5

    Mix the cooked eggs in with the rice and meat. Blend in the soy sauce.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cook the rice the day before you make the fried rice and refrigerate it overnight.
  • You can add mushrooms, bean sprouts and any other vegetable you like to this recipe.
