While Swedish massage is an effective way to relieve stress and tension, when not performed correctly it can wreak havoc on the body of the therapist. One way to relieve stress on the therapist's body is to use a variety of body parts to give massage. A few tips on how to massage the arms with the edges of the palms will give you an idea of alternative techniques.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin this Swedish massage technique with your client face up on the table and his arms just a few inches from their sides. Remember that this technique can be used on virtually any part of the body. Anchor your client's arm with your inside hand by holding his wrist gently.

  2. Step 2

Notice that in the heel of your palm, the bone of your forearm protrudes slightly, making the perfect massage tool without stressing your hands or arms. Press this bone into the space between your client's forearm, just above the wrist. Be careful with this technique, as it is easy to apply too much pressure.

  3. Step 3

Allow your palm and fingers to drape around the client's forearm. Keep your anchor with your inside hand as you push gently yet firmly up the length of the forearm, keeping the bone in the heel of your palm between his forearm bones.

  4. Step 4

Hold your position when you reach the top of the forearm, pressing your bone into the thick muscle of the arm near the elbow. Begin to rock your client's wrist gently with your inside hand, allowing his own bones to gently massage the muscles.
