How to Pick a Pedal Board Case

Your pedal board is a big investment, and it's important to consider how you'll store it, so choosing a case is critical. You'll want something that will protect the valuable pieces of equipment, and will also allow you to conveniently access the pedals for use.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Get a hard shell. Putting your pedals in a soft case defeats the purpose. They'll be safe from dust, but not from the hard knocks of transport. Most players choose a metal cover for their case.
Step2
Find something to put your pedals on inside the case. Lots of cases use a piece of plywood, possibly covered with carpet. Some recommend slanting your base material at an angle so that you can see the pedals where they lay on the floor.
Step3
Use Velcro to stick the pedals onto your base. Glue the Velcro onto your base materials or find some other good way to fix the pedals in place.
Step4
Consider adding a combination lock or padlock to your setup. Part of protecting your pedals is making sure they don't walk away. A good lock will deter theft, since it's hard to use a locked case.
Step5
Think about size and weight. Don't get a completely oversized case for just a few pieces of equipment; match your case to your needs to minimize what you'll have to drag around to gigs.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you're laying out your pedal board case interior, always think about how you will connect the pedals to one another. Be sure pedals are in good proximity or easily moved. Otherwise, you may end up with a situation where plugs don't reach, and you'll break the circuit you need to use all of your pedals at once.
