How to Prepare for Plucking

When you make up your face, you do so with the objective of accentuating your best features. However, your face is never complete until your eyebrows are attractively shaped. This can be done by plucking them, and it is not difficult to prepare for this procedure.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Tweezers
  • Eyebrow pencil
  • Eyebrow brush
  • Antiseptic such as witch hazel
  • Cotton ball
  • Lighted mirror with magnification
  • Hand towel

Step1
Purchase the best set of tweezers you can afford. You can find them in salons, department and drug stores or online. Tweezerman tweezers are the favorite of professionals and beauty experts (see Resources below). A slanted pair is the best choice for eyebrows.
Step2
Sanitize your tweezers with alcohol or other antiseptic before you prepare to use them on your face, and then lay them on a paper towel to dry.
Step3
Set up a magnification mirror on a steady vanity or table. The mirror should either have built-in lighting, or you should have a light source that brightly illuminates the mirror. You should also prepare the remainder of your implements and have them at hand.
Step4
Decide on the best eyebrow shape for your face. There are diagrams that show various shapes, and you may want to use one of them to help you make your decision. You should never start plucking until you know exactly what you want to remove.
Step5
Wet a hand towel with very warm water, and then lay the towel over both eyebrows. You want to leave the towel on long enough for the eyebrow area to soften up before plucking.
Step6
Brush the brows up and out in order to see where any stray hairs may be located. You can trim hairs that do not follow the shape you have chosen with small scissors.
Step7
Begin plucking the area between both eyebrows and clear it of all unwanted hair.
Step8
Move on to each individual eyebrow and begin plucking unwanted hairs from beneath the arch of the eyebrow. You should pull each hair out quickly and in the same direction in which your hair grows. Make sure you hold the area being plucked firmly so that the hair is easier to remove.
Step9
Dab the plucked areas with a cotton ball soaked in witch hazel, which will lessen the redness and inflammation.

Tips & Warnings

  • It's best to pluck your eyebrows simultaneously so that you get an even result on both sides.
  • Be careful when removing hair around the eyebrows, as the area is sensitive and over-plucking may cause hair to grow in sparsely or not at all.
