Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Aloe vera gels and lotions
- Sharp razor with multiple blades
- Hot water
- Towel
Step1
Moisturize your legs before and after you shave to keep them smooth. Pure aloe vera gel is the one of the safest and most effective ways to keep the skin on your legs free of razor bumps, irritation and ingrown hairs. Using a shaving gel that contains aloe vera and other natural moisturizers will help you achieve a closer shave, further creating that smooth feel to your skin.
Step2
Use a sharp razor, particularly one with multiple blades, to keep your legs smooth after shaving. A cheap single-blade razor or a dull blade can tug and pull at hair, causing follicles to become irritated or even infected. The proper razor will cut the hair on your legs more closely to the skin, with a minimum of resistance.
Step3
Soak your legs in warm water for a few minutes before you shave them. The ideal time to shave your legs is while you are still in the bath or shower, since the heat of the water opens up the hair follicles and allows for a more consistent shave. Water also softens and relaxes leg hairs, providing a more effortless shave.
Step4
Shave your legs in a smooth, fluid motion, putting just a minimum of pressure against your skin. Start from the ankle and allow the razor to glide in an uninterrupted motion to your knee, going against the direction the hairs are growing. You may want to pull your skin tight with your hand in order to get the hairs on your legs to stand straight up for the razor.
Step5
Rinse your legs thoroughly of all gels, soaps or lotions once you have finished shaving. Residue from these products could dry and make your skin feel rough or uneven. Remember, a clean leg is a smooth leg.
Step6
Apply a thick, absorbent towel to gently pat your legs dry after you have finished shaving. Avoid rubbing the skin on your legs vigorously with the towel, since this may increase skin and hair follicle irritation.
