How to Tip a Gardener
While we all appreciate the people who make our lives easier, we don't always remember to tell them. If you have the finest yard on the block because of your gardener's green thumb, recommend him to others and don't forget to thank him with a monetary incentive once in a while.

1
Plan to tip the gardener during the holidays and on special occasions if she is a regular service provider. It is considered good etiquette to offer a gratuity of $20 to $50 to thank her for maintaining the exterior of your home or office.
-
2
Give your gardener a cash tip placed in an envelope. If you won't see him again until spring, give him a note of thanks and an early holiday tip after he finishes your fall bulb planting and leaf cleanup.

3
Tip the gardener every time she completes a service for you instead of annually, if you prefer. It never hurts to share an extra $5 or $10 after every visit as a reminder that you're thankful for what can be dirty, back-breaking work.
-
4
Don't forget to verbalize your appreciation when you pass off the tip envelope. Let the gardener know how much you enjoy spending time in your backyard after he spends the day beautifying it.
-
5
Remember that tipping your gardener is optional. If she is unreliable, provides poor service or is not personable, adjust your tip accordingly or decline to offer one at all.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't feel comfortable offering your gardener money as a Christmas gift, select a gift card to a local coffee shop or restaurant. Avoid giving wine or alcohol as a gift, as not everyone drinks.
