Step 1
Look for items that can be used in a variety of tricks. For example, you could build an entire routine around a deck of magic cards. Likewise, magic coins and the quintessential magician's hat will give you a wide range of tricks with which to work.
-
Step 2
Try your hand at making your own equipment. For example, you can create a magician's table by using a card table or a piece of plywood over 2 sawhorses covered by a long tablecloth. This will provide you with the perfect storage spot for items needed later in the show, but if you want something a little more professional, you can sew a pocket, known as a servante, on the side of the tablecloth not facing the audience.
-
Step 3
Support a local magic shop instead of purchasing supplies online. You also will actually be able to touch and perhaps test a sample of the product before you buy it. You can go to a store looking for specific equipment needed to perform a trick or ask the owner for advice on a new trick to try.
-
Step 4
Get the right magic equipment on the Abracadabra Magic website, which is one of the oldest manufacturers and sellers of magic supplies in the world (see Resources below). You'll be able to find tricks ranging from the classic disappearing flower act to modern put-the-card-in-the-bottle tricks.
-
Step 5
Find the right professional magic equipment at the Magic Supply Company website, such as professional magicians rope that can be used for a variety of tricks (see Resources below). You can select products based on whether you plan to perform a stage or street show.
