Things You'll Need:
- Colorful costume
- Hat
- Tools for tricks

Step 1
Learn several simple, easy-to-master tricks. For street magic, you want to include tricks that have a lot of movement and color. They should also be tricks that will have the potential to attract a large crowd and can be seen from a distance. Tricks that work well for street magicians include those using cards, coins, rings and levitation. However, with the right presentation, just about any trick can be used to help you become a street magician.
-
Step 2
Perform your tricks for a small group of friends and family when they least expect it. This will help build your confidence. They also can give you feedback on any mistakes you may be making. Keep practicing the same tricks, but on different people. As you begin to master your initial 2 or 3 tricks, begin to add other simple ones into your routine.
-
Step 3
Practice adding dialogue to your tricks. This is what makes the tricks really pop. Be funny and use the responses of your viewers and the nature of each trick to make the spectators feel as if they are a part of the show.
-
Step 4
Pick out a colorful or unusual street magician costume. Although you can perform in your everyday clothes, those of a more flamboyant nature are likely to attract more attention. In addition, remember to wear clothing that is comfortable and weather appropriate, as you will be performing outside.
-
Step 5
Pick a spot to put on your show. Think of areas in the city you live in or a nearby city where you have seen street performers. Just about any busy street will do, but squares or shopping districts closed off to motor traffic are usually the most conducive to performing street magic.
-
Step 6
Begin your act with a colorful, vibrant trick that will catch the attention of people on the street. When people begin to stop and watch, perform the tricks that you have learned for them. Project your voice so you may still be heard by people passing by, and move among the people that have gathered. Use volunteers to perform your tricks or ask for items from those gathered to give your tricks a more realistic feel.
-
Step 7
Close your act by asking for donations in a witty, non-threatening way. Have a hat placed on the ground for this purpose.
