If you have straight hair then you know how difficult it is to get those locks to curl, but I found two easy at-home solutions that won't damage your hair with curling irons or perms.

    Things You'll Need

    • Ponytail Holders

The first thing you'll have to do is wash your hair and if you intend on going out that day then wash your hair at night because you might not want to be seen with your new wet hair style. After you have washed and conditioned your hair make sure you comb it through with a wide toothed comb to get out any knots, and if you're having difficulty getting those knots out, then try using a children's hair detangler - they smell wonderful and in my opinion actually work better than the detanglers for adults.

If you're going for the crimped look then separate your hair into four equal parts and make tiny braids with each section before securing them with a non slip grip ponytail holder - Scunci makes a great line of these products. If you have bangs then you'll want to blow dry them but leave the rest of the hair in braids all night - and if you feel confident enough to go out with the braids, then that would be best because the longer you keep them, in the more crimped your hair will be and the longer it will last, but whatever you do make sure you sleep with the braids intact.
In the morning take the ponytail holders out and slightly massage your scalp but try not to brush your hair otherwise it will become very frizzy. You can keep your newly crimped hair down or take a small section from the front, pull it back and secure it with either a barrette or clip. You will be amazed at how your poker straight hair has transformed into this wild hairdo and you'll want to do it all the time.

But if the crimped look isn't what you're after, then what about curls that will replicate a perm? Again you'll want to either plan on staying in the day you do this or wash your hair at night, because with this one you probably won't want to be seen in public. Wash and condition your hair and comb it through just like you would with the crimped look but this time after you separate your hair into four sections you're going to twirl each section and then take the twirled hair to form a bun. Secure it with a non-slip ponytail holder and repeat this process for all four sections. Yes, you'll wind up looking like Princess Lea but like I said you'll probably want to stay in when you have your hair like this or do it at night, but either way make sure you leave the buns in overnight - even though sleeping with four buns takes some getting used, its the price of beauty and it really does work.

When you wake up in the morning take the ponytail holders out and run your fingers through your hair gently; you will see that you have curls - hallelujah! The curls will look just like you've had a perm and they will last a couple of days but to ensure they do, spray them with hairspray and you're all set to show the world that you, too, can have curly hair.
