Youth choirs have been raising the spirts of audiences for centuries, computer based homeschools can now add their voices to the performances heard around the world. Training young voices to bring an audience to their feet may seem more challenging than math, but the principles are similar once they are recognized. Even if the parents cannot seem to carry a tune, the students may have enough talent to audition for Carnagie Hall.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Get going in the right direction by having at least one musical on dvd to have a little talent search in the beginning of organizing a small choir. Preferably the 'Sound of Music', 'Sister Act', 'Annie' or something that will check the vocal cords of those excited about singing and this will prevent any surprises or bruised egos before practice even starts into full swing.
Step2
Singing is natural for many children, their voices need to be trained to greatness and encouraged to perform before an audience. Great care must be taken to prepare children to sing before an audience, prepare them with a simple song to practice before a small audience so they can feel the beginnings of stage fright. They may even one day be prepared for the ‘battle of the choirs’ involving homeschools in your city or county.
Step3
Practice is only half the work when it comes to a homeschool as it requires a little balance so it does not look or feel like work. Make choir practice fun! Play singing games, let them sing their favorite songs after practice starts, make a little dance step -- they will look forward to practice! Youth choirs normally practice for both fun and harmony to keep choir members together as a team and it makes the group look forward to performing.
Step4
Reading choir music is a tall order for youth choirs, make it easier by having them listen to the song before beginning practice. Everybody will have a sample of what they will perform and in turn the sample will chaparone each voice into perfect harmony. A computer based homeschool in harmony can be a great performance for any audience, always remember practice singing, practice performing and have fun.

Tips & Warnings

  • Look in community centers for ‘rhythm and motion show choir camps, they will inspire homeschool choirs to perform better
  • Choir camps are great training grounds, if unable to participate – just go for the atmosphere for everyone to enjoy great voices
