How to Eat in Seville, Spain

Spain has a rich food culture. When you're off the beaten path, outside of Madrid and Barcelona, it can be a more interesting trip and a more exciting. It's important to take advantage of all your opportunities, culinary and otherwise.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Ask locals. Find out what people in the area really love. If you’re close to the water (which, in Seville, you are close enough to the water for a good, authentic paella), find out what’s brought in fresh every day.
Step2
Pick the right restaurant. If there’s a crowd outside the restaurant, see why so many people are there. See if that’s where the people who live there go out for a nice meal.
Step3
Check out the specials. When you go to a restaurant, look at any daily specials. This will be the dishes the restaurant uses to get people in the door. It will be something the place is boasting about. Give that a try.
Step4
Try a little bit of everything. Spain is known for tapas and the wait staff knows what to expect. Feel free to graze on small plates you can share. There’s something for every taste, from asparagus eggs to marinated tuna to ox tail.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be adventurous. This won’t be the last food you ever eat. If you don’t like it, well, you’ve learned something, haven’t you?
  • Don’t forget to try the wine, if you drink alcohol. Spain has some of the best of it in the world.
  • Keep in mind that if you go at the right time of year, you can dine al fresco. There’s little better than munching and watching the city walk by.
