In this article I will show how to calculate earned run average for high school pitchers and college pitchers. A lot of people think it is very hard to find a pitchers earned run average, with this formula it is very easy. For high school pitches, teams only play 7 innings. era = earned runs * ( 21 / batters out ) batters out can be found by multiplying innings pitched by 3. For example if a pitcher has pitched 4 1/3 innings the batters out = 13. For college pitchers or pro pitchers era, teams play a full 9 innings. era = earned runs * ( 27 / batters out ) batters out can be found by multiplying innings pitched by 3. For example if a pitcher has pitched 4 1/3 innings the batters out = 13. For example of calculating era. If a high school pitcher gives up 5 runs in 27 1/3 innings pitched his era would be. 1) ( 27 1/3 ) * 3 = 82 batters out 2) era = 5 * ( 21 / 82 ) era = 1.28
