Ballet, jazz, modern and interpretive dance are all art forms that would normally only be seen on television at computer-based homeschools. Would it be more entertaining if the dance troupe was inside the homeschool? Computer-based homeschooling need not be all books and paper, extracurricular activities can easily be stretched to include a few jazz dance steps, modern dance steps and of course interpretive dance. Besides a little practice, patience and rhythm the easy part is getting started with volunteers.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Jazz dance steps and modern dance steps may seem out of reach to homeschoolers, but children have always been interpretive dancers as any homeschool mom can confirm.

Harness all that talent by arriving at who will join your dance troupe and then get a recording of your favorite style of dance and viola on to the stage. If you have ever possessed an exercise video or seen one on cable then you can teach others to dance it just takes a lot more patience than when anyone has tried to continue exercising after that first workout.

  2. Step 2

Dance costumes can always be liberally designed to accommodate budget constraints or fashion constraints for your dance troupe. In dancing presentation is a large percentage of the performance, fashion being the major portion of presentation and therefore important enough to make good choices in both form and function. The function of the dance costume is especially important so that the performers will be comfortable with making the best performance possible and have fun looking good.

  3. Step 3

Dance routines can be as creative as the students who participate in the dance troupe, adding a little interpretive dance to jazz dance to modern dance will not break any rules as far as young dancers are concerned. The dance routine decided on can additionally be made easier by placing the dance steps in numbered progressions on the floor until everyone has got the basics down. Whatever method chosen to get the dance routine to it’s next stage is up to the instructor as long as everyone gets from point A to point B.

Tips & Warnings
  • Dance costumes need to be made of very flexible and durable material to ensure uninterrupted performances.
  • Jazz dance routines can be created from long-standing professional shows. A snippet will go a long way for the dance troupe.
