Pick the Right Cut of Suit for Your Man

When you are going to pick the right cut of suit for your man, there are some things to keep in mind. As with everything else in life, changes occur all the time; it’s no different in the fashion industry. Suit styles change as the designers are continually coming up with something new or making old styles new again. Follow the steps as a guideline to pick the right cut of suit for your man.

From Quick Guide: Men's Suits 101
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Shop for a double-breasted suit if your man is tall and thin. This is a classic suit cut that your man will look great wearing. It has 2 rows of buttons down the front of the coat and 1 button inside the left side for keeping the suit straight and uniform. The double-breasted suit is a classy and one of the most formal suit cut of all.

  2. Step 2

Go for the British suit for your gentleman if he is a bit wider than others. The British suit is significantly unlike the double-breasted one, although they both are British creations. This classic British suit comes with just a single button row down the front, as opposed to the 2 rows. This suit will accentuate his height and minimize his width, giving him the illusion of being a little thinner and taller.

  3. Step 3

Choose the Italian suit and your man will look like a top corporate mogul. This type of suit is best for making thinner men look wonderful; however, it fits many different types of bodies. The Italian suit is tailored, clean and well polished. The shoulders are made wider and the waist tapers to make a triangular effect, which gives an impression of power and sophistication. If you want him to be trendy and upscale, the Italian suit would be the right cut for your man.

  4. Step 4

Opt for a handsome American suit if his style is casual. The American cut suit is great for hiding body lines, especially if you have a wider man. Sometimes referred to as the "sack" suit, this cut is considered to be more of a casual suit than the Italian or British suit. The typical cut of an American suit is wider at the shoulders and a bit of a straighter line along the sides.

  5. Step 5

Select the contemporary suit for your man if he is short and wide. This cut is a newer cut of suit that has been designed to fit the body styles of today’s men. It brings the attention to the face with the small lapel, while also thinning the look of the torso. This would be the right cut of suit if your man is wider or shorter than average. And, even though it is a very classy-looking suit, it is quite comfortable to wear.
